Review - Surface Unsigned - Ashley Neal

Opening up the Surface Unsigned Regional final was Droitwich based three-piece The Crooked Empire. Their sound is rough and ready rock with an indie edge. It’s the sort of sound that just get’s your feet tapping and it pulled tight together to see a huge pit of horn blowing fans dancing away. Again compliments on the tight backing vocals from drummer Matt locking cleanly in with some powerful lead vocals from Sean. And with some great driving guitar riffs and catchy sing along choruses pulled together to see an impressive performance of their sharp sound and their range of solid material setting the standard very high for all other acts to play up to.

Review - Surface Unsigned - Ashley Neal

The first band of the evening was Droitwich based three-piece The Crooked Empire. Upbeat and heavy Alternative-Rock that bursts with energy and emotion – it’s a substantial and distinctive sound that really works for them. They have a surprisingly ‘Big’ sound for a three piece that they pull off really well. Powerful driving vocals from lead singer Sean accompanied by tight backup vocals from drummer matt, they pulled together incredibly well on the night setting the bar high for the other acts to follow.

Review - Surface Unsigned - Stephen Hudbya

The third band of the night was Droitwich Spa based three-piece The Crooked Empire. Their sound is raw exciting Indie-Rock n Roll cut-through with hooky melody all played with passion and precision by a talented group of musicians. Delivering an impressive set’s worth of well-written, memorable songs it was one of the strongest performances of the night.
